The resort more than met our expectations after our first night in San Jose in an expensive but characterless hotel. The grounds are beautiful and we spotted a variety of birds, butterflies and tropical flora. The hot pool was very welcome as the temepratures in late December were quite cool. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are functional and the beds firm. We had most of our meals in the main restaurant, both the service and food were good. We sampled the hot springs at 'The Springs' (another nearby hotel) and also had dinner there, which we thought was not as good as Arenal Springs.

Stayed here for one night whilst on a two day tour. First impressions of hotel good- clean, good sized rooms and great pool to have a swim in after a hard days travelling and sightseeing. However one or two niggles- walls are paper thin(can hear everything next door), no alarm clock for next day early get up and food was poor - particularly in comparison to our main hotel-Occidental Grand Papagayo(see my review of that hotel) and restaurants we ate in on trip. Ok for one night stay though and grounds were very beautiful

The Arenal Springs Resort was a gem! The rooms are large, spacious and airy, tiled floors with great beds, pillows and linens. Our bathroom included a portion of the shower that was a thriving mini-rainforest! The rooms had air conditioning and TV; comfortable furniture out on the porch/balcony. The pool at the Arenal Springs Resort contains water piped in directly from the volcanic hot springs off of the volcano. A lovely 98 degrees, going in is an experience that can only be described as heavenly. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, well manicured and inviting. Breakfasts at Arenal Springs Resort were served in their beautiful, rustic, open-air restaurant. Omelettes were available to order and a great variety of foods, including some cereals, fruits, meats, vegetables, breads, salsas and much more, made this a great way to start the day! The concierge, Eduardo, was most helpful in assisting us in confirming reservations for a tour the following day. All the staff were tremendously friendly and accomodating. Beautifully paved roads and parking places as well as sidewalks are very inviting. Each unit has an assigned parking spot conveniently just beside the unit. What a lovely place to stay! The owners are on the premises and take great pride in their lovely facility. The only disappointment: no lava flows are generally visible on this side of the volcano and the volcano was inactive, though visible, while we were visiting.

The Arenal Springs Resort is more like renting a condo (sans kitchen, but with fridge!) The property is large with pathways and full driveways for those with cars. For those without, there are golf carts ever roaming to offer you a ride. The rooms were huge, and the shower had a trickling waterfall coming down over a rock wall. The bar was cozy and fun. It rained our 3 days there, so no volcano view. And, it's on the wrong side to see lava rock showers. The food was pretty good, but we often ordered the bar menu because size and price more fit our style. The only negative was that it was too far from La Fortuna, so there were no other eating options if you did not have a car. Date of stay January 2010

Overall this was probably the most realistic priced hotel that we stayed in Costa Rica. Some were waaay overpriced but this resort was very fair. Breakfast was included and very good. The grounds were impeccable and rooms well maintained. There were ants in our room but the staff did get rid of them quickly. It's too far to walk to get into town but you can see the lava sometimes from the hotel. We missed it but other guest said the hotel will give you a wake up call when it erupts. We spent 3 days in Arenal springs resort from dec 22- dec 25. The resorts tropical landscape with the Arenal volcano backdrop is mesmerizing. It was a very relaxing stay except for the service at the resorts restaurant. If not going for a buffet, you can expect a wait of an hour or 2 to get your food, sometime even incorrect delivery. It is a beautiful resort to spend time watching the Arenal volcano from the patio or room every day. Date of stay December 2009
